Broad Scope and Purpose for the Position: This master’s level clinical therapist position works directly with clients utilizing clinical theory and skills to help increase the well-being of the client.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Counsels and aids individuals and/or families requiring the assistance of FCS. Determines the nature/degree of issue/condition through client interviews.
  • Secures information including physical, psychological and social factors that contribute to the client’s situation and evaluates these and the client’s capacities.
  • Counsels families, individual clients, or co-facilitates group therapy. With the client, develops a treatment plan to address the client’s needs and assists clients to mobilize inner capacities and environmental resources to improve social functioning. Documents all contact and correspondence on behalf of clients, including contact with outside agencies.
  • May refer clients to community resources if the client needs an additional level of care or additional assistance outside of therapist’s training, expertise or credentials (i.e. AA, addiction treatment, psychological evaluation, parenting capacity assessment, sex offender evaluation and/or treatment, or any other mental health issue the therapist is not trained or credentialed to address.)
  • Strengthens and expands FCS’s programs by establishing relationships through attendance at meetings and conferences to further educational growth and active participation with other human services providers as requested.
  • Identifies and presents to the Executive Director and/or Clinical Director changes in service needs and trends within the community. May propose alternative service offerings to answer changing community and client needs.
  • Conducts intake sessions as needed.
  • Provide and receive peer consultation when asked.
  • Initiates clinical supervisory sessions with designated supervisor by contacting supervisor and scheduling supervisor.
  • Maintain current professional license and comply with all annual and regulatory requirements of specific licensure (LSW, LCSW, LPC, LCPC)
  • For internship observation and learning purposes, welcome graduate students into client sessions, with client permission, and when a clinician deems it is appropriate.
  • May be asked to supervise a master’s/graduate level intern assigned to FCS for their internship.
  • Attends agency related dinners, fundraisers, team meetings, and other functions as required.
  • Attend continuing education and training to keep clinical skills current.
  • Schedule clients or works with administrative staff to schedule clients.
  • Takes on and completes additional projects when asked by Clinical Supervisor(s) or Executive Director.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Experience:

Minimum Education

Master’s degree in social work, counseling or related field.

Minimum Work Experience

For Master’s Degree, LPC, or LSW, related internship experience.

For LCSW, LCPC or LMFT, two years experience providing counseling/therapy.
