FCS looking to hire a new Therapist

Position Title:  Therapist

Reports To:  Executive Director

Broad Scope and Purpose for the Positions:  This master’s level clinical therapist position works directly with clients utilizing clinical theory and skills to help increase the well-being of the client.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Counsels and aids individuals and\or families requiring the assistance of FCS. Determines the nature/degree of problem and stressors through client interviews.  Discuss with clients personal and family adjustments, finances (to set fee agreement), employment and mental health issues.
  • Secures information including physical, psychological and social factors that contribute to the client’s situation and evaluates these and the client’s capacities.
  • Counsels families, individual clients, or co-facilitates group therapy. With the client, develops a treatment plan to address the client’s needs and assists clients to mobilize inner capacities and environmental resources to improve social functioning.  Documents all contact and correspondence on behalf of clients, including contact with outside agencies.
  • May refer clients to community resources if the client needs an additional level of care or additional assistance outside of therapist’s training, expertise or credentials (i.e. AA, addiction treatment, psychological evaluation, parenting capacity assessment, sex offender evaluation and/or treatment, or any other mental health issue the therapist is not trained or credentialed to address.)
  • Strengthens and expands FCS’s programs by establishing relationships through attendance at meetings and conferences to further educational growth and active participation with other human services providers as requested.
  • Identifies and presents to the Executive Director and/or Clinical Director changes in service needs and trends within the community. May propose alternative service offerings to answer changing community and client needs.
  • Conducts intake sessions as needed.
  • Provide and receive peer consultation when asked.
  • Initiates clinical supervisory sessions with designated supervisor by contacting supervisor and scheduling supervisor. (1x\mo. with license, 2x\month if not pursuing licensure. If pursuing a license a clinician will ask their supervisor to meet as often as their licensing board requires of them in order to have their supervisory hours signed off on.)
  • Maintain current professional license and comply with all annual and regulatory requirements of specific licensure (LSW, LCSW, LPC, LCPC)
  • Calculate and provide to the Executive Director monthly statistical reports of therapy activities.
  • For internship observation and learning purposes, welcome graduate students into client sessions, with client permission, and when a clinician deems it is appropriate.
  • May be asked to supervise a master’s\graduate level intern assigned to FCS for their internship.
  • Attends agency related dinners, fundraisers, team meetings, and other functions as required.
  • Attend continuing education and training to keep clinical skills current.
  • Schedule clients or ask the front desk staff to do so.
  • Consistently reads google documents containing the waiting list and follows the process to initiate services with a client when a clinician has an opening and the skills to address the client’s needs.
  • Become familiar with and follow the stated waiting list and “no show” policies and procedures.
  • Closes out clients when applicable, initiates closing paperwork and process.
  • Follows note taking outline provided by or approved by supervisor, for each client in Therapy Appointments record keeping (in addition, therapists may keep their own separate private file on clients with their own style of note taking).
  • Takes on and completes additional projects when asked by Clinical Supervisor(s) or Executive Director.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Experience:

 Minimum Education

Master’s degree in social work, counseling or related field.

Minimum Work Experience

For Master’s Degree, LPC, or LSW, related internship experience.

For LCSW, LCPC or LMFT, two years experience providing counseling/therapy.

Bilingual in Spanish & English highly desirable
